Hepatitis B Immunization at Aasraa

On the occasion of World Hepatits Day on 28th July 2016, 125 Aasraa children were immunized against Hepatitis B by the medical team of Max Hospital Dehradun. As a part of this drive, more than 400 children will be immunized in August 2016.  We are grateful to Max India Foundation for their continued support in making sure our children lead a happy healthy life.

Art & Yoga classes at Doon School

The children of Aasraa have been invited by our friends in Doon School to attend weekly art & yoga classes. They will be performing alongside the Doon school boys on the school's founder day celebrations. The children love this opportunity and are excited to be there!

Launch of 'Wings of Doon' at CNI Boys Inter College

Senior Wings has been extended to a new centre in the heart of Dehradun’s Paltan Bazar area. CNI Boys Inter College is a heritage school of the Doon Valley.  In addition to academics, this integrated after school program offers sports like basketball, badminton, volleyball; a hot nutritious lunch, fruits, milk and of course medical care. Currently 125 students attend this program every day from Monday-Friday.

Separate Wings classes for mainstreamed students of SGRR

Our first batch of rag picking children have been mainstreamed into Shri Guru Ram Rai Public Schools. We have shifted the homework and concept support classes from Kanwali Road to ‘The Haven’ in Indira Nagar. This gives the children a peaceful environment to study in and a lot more space to run around. They can do individual and group work more effectively. The children are thrilled to be here and so are we.

Educational courses and internships for school leavers

5 Students who have graduated from school this year have successfully completed 2 month courses in English, Computers and Beauty Care.

Mukesh & Tarun want to join the army and are preparing hard for it. Before the commencement of the training camp, they are doing an internship with the admin team at Aasraa.

Raghubir has enrolled into D.B.S College to pursue his graduation in Geology. He wants to join the Railway Services and has also joined T.I.M.E institute for exam preparation.

Vineet who wants to be an actor is training under puppeteer Ram Lal. Subsequently, he will be joining a production house to learn the tricks of the trade.

Karishma is keen to explore the hospitality industry and has applied for internship at a leading resort in Dehradun.

Volunteers & Interns at Aasraa

Youngsters Nancy, Prachi, Pragya (Foundation for Excellence), Prakhar (Engineering student), Shwetanki, Plabhanee, Rudranath Zadu, Chiranjiv, Tejaswi , Shaurya (Law students)  Ana (from Brazil), Arzoo & Manisha (Teach for India fellows) Diparul & Aaparajhita, Khusi Hona kids & Monty (from U.K) volunteered with us over the past few months. Their enthusiasm brought a new energy into our projects, thank you guys!

Nikita & Anand’s surgery

Nikita, 17, resident of our girl’s shelter home recently underwent surgery at Max Hospital Dehradun to rectify damage to her ear and hearing. Her ear had suffered significant damage over the years which went undetected till she came to stay in Aasraa a few months back. Thankfully the problem was detected in time. She is doing well post-surgery.

Anand, 14, injured his finger while playing football. He was in need of immediate surgery which was done at Max Hospital Dehradun.

Deepak moves to the hostel of Bajaj Institute of Learning; Pooja joins the girls shelter home

Deepak our lovely, bright, energetic child has been shifted to the hostel facility at Bajaj Institute of Learning, Dehradun. We decided to move him as we wanted the best for his special needs- field experts, experienced teachers, peer support and top notch facility where he can blossom into a talented young man. We have so many hopes and dreams for this wonderful child and are very excited to unfold the next chapter with him.

Pooja, our silent Pooja, rejoined Aasraa in the Anti Begging Program. We were able to convince her parents to admit her into her girls shelter home and are thrilled to have her with us. She has blossomed amazingly in the past few weeks.

Adventure camp organized for boys & girls of Aasraa’s shelter home

An Adventure Camp was organized for our shelter home children to Viratkhai, Chakrata. 56 boys, 6 girls and 8 staff members attended this 4 day camp. This trip was a team building and ice breaking exercise for the new batch of students joining the shelter home. Some of the activities featured in the camp were trekking, kayaking, river crossing, rock climbing, rappling, zumaring and valley crossing. Heartfelt thanks to GIO Adventures for their kind support.

Jungle Book movie organized for 250 kids

Waste Warriors Dehradun treated 250 Aasraa kids to the movie Jungle Book (3D) in Silver City Mall. The kids thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We are so thankful to our friends at Waste Warriors for their generosity and love.

Celebrations at Aasraa

Street Child Day was celebrated across Aasraa’s learning centres with a lot of gusto! Painting, craft, rangoli, spoon racing, singing & dance competitions were organized for the children. Our supporters, volunteers & donors were guests of honors and helped us judge the competitions.

We would like to extend a BIG thank you to all our  friends and well wishers for their constant support and encouragement.
